I have purchased Office Home & Student 2013 and it installed perfectly fine. Yet, when I go to Word and try open a blank document out pops a box stating Microsoft Word has stopped working and I will be notified IF there is a fix. WTH! I cannot use the dang program. PLEASE help!!

I had someone working on my computer. They did a good job but not I cant not use my Microsoft office. I had words 2013,excel, power point word. when I click on it the error message come up saying something when wrong. Please help me.
Thanks Doug. Spent most of the day trying to get Word & Excell to work on my newly installed office programme on Windows 8.1. Have uninstalled AbbyFinereader and it works, just hope my old Epson Stylus printer didn't need Abby. Will leave testing that for another day.
for me i read doug robbins post and for me it was the fact i had abby finereader installed due to my printer. i had to uninstall it (it was not useful anyway) and straight away it started to work again
It should be when Microsoft fixs their product so it works with other software. After all Microsoft is the programmer. Their office products should work with any system.
Unchecking Abbyy Fine Reader via safe mode fixed the crash for Word and Powerpoint, but not for Excel - in safe mode, Excel didn't even have Abbyy Fine Reader listed. Had to completely uninstall Abbyy Fine Reader via Windows Program Manager to allow Excel to work outside safe mode.
Thanks for the invaluable info - without it would never have identified that one plug-in as the cause. Unfortunately not all users would know to hunt around the MS forums for a solution.
