My Microsoft Word Starter 2010 won't open

My Microsoft Word Starter 2010 won't open, It was working fine yesterday but today I get the message "Microsoft Word Starter 2010 cannot be opened.  Try again or repair the product in Control Panel." I ran the repair, it completed successfully but I still can't open Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.   Please help!

I tried clicking start, then selecting control panel, then selecting programs and features, then selecting Microsoft Word Starter 2010 English, then selecting change and then then Repair Microsoft Office Click To Run screen came up, I selected the Remove remove all Office user settings related to this product and then clicked on yes.  I was connected to the internet, the repair ran and came back and said successfully completed.  I then tried to open Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and it still wouldn't open.  Any other ideas on why this is happening.  Everything was fine yesterday and I didn't change anything knowingly.

I found this solution on an HP website. Uninstall and reinstall.

Control panel-programs and features-click on Microsoft Office Starter 2010-English.

At the top click uninstall. Click all check boxes that show up then finally click YES.

Now to reinstall: When done click on Start-All Programs-Microsoft Office Starter 2010-

Use Office Starter 2010.

This worked for me. The MS directions to repair were useless.

When you uninstall any version of Office your personal document files are not affected.

Starter does not have a time limit on it. It is your "for ever". I already posted the re-install instructions, but here they are again:

Starter is not actually installed on your computer. It runs inside of a “virtual computer” located in the “Q:\” drive and the program code is downloaded over the internet every time the program is started. Therefore there are limited things we as users can do to "fix" starter:

  1. Run an Office Repair on Starter
  2. Confirm that you have the KB 2553141 update (in theory it should be there ‘automatically’ … )
  3. Use "MS Office Manager" to re-install Starter from the Windows program Manager
  4. Re-install WINDOWS from the recovery partition, wiping all installed programs and personal data files!
  5. Phone the OEM who supposed to support Starter. They will tell you to do steps 1-4 and then lie to you and tell you to call MS!

    I fixed my Microsoft Word Starter "repair" box that kept popping up on the bottom right corner of my the app. This seems to have worked for me. I have a cheapy compaq cq56-115dx notebook.

    The MS Word Starter .exe is located at

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\Virtualization Handler\CVH.exe

    on my machine. Double click and it brings up a Virtualization Handler dialog that says something like "Hey, I'm doing some stuff but if you dont want to wait, you can pause what I'm doing" But it had finished by the time I read the sentence. It had a 1 line description of some process it performed and then to the right, had a green check box with the word "Done" beside it. There are 2 buttons at the bottom of the dialog. One says Pause and the other says Close, I believe. Pause is disabled and Close was the only option. Like I said, it did it's "thing" so fast that Pause wasn't an option.

    I closed the box, opened up my file and I haven't had the message since. It's been about 1 hour now, and I'm on the public library wi-fi...sloooow. I even created new files, made some new goofy/funky files and opened my resume, which uses a pretty involved template.

    So far, so good.  The message had been appearing about every min. on my box. Not any more.

    The instructions were simple and easy to follow.  However, the "Q" was deleted but was unable to boot up or reload the program.  Gave it up!  Now using Open Office!  Do miss the speak and type program.
