Excel 2013 is very slow in loading large workbooks, is there a way to open just the tab I want?

Anita, I know this is an old thread, but I agree with many of the posts. Office 2013, in particular, Excel is nearly useless when working with large data sets. My accounting dept. has a good example of spreadsheet with a pivot table on in the same workbook (400K rows) in Excel 2010 the spreadsheet flies, but Excel 2013 just moving between tabs is enough to make my accounting team turn postal. It seems counter intuitive for anyone to upgrade to Office 2013 when these types of issue are being introduced into a  new product. MS may feel it is necessary to introduce a higher level of security, but it would make sense to allow the individual to control the level of security - so at this time is my only option to downgrade to my users to Office 2010?

Toooooooooooo slow. makes it impratctical, and totally useless.

I have to save my xlsx files as xls and see that will resolve.

I thought my PC was attacked by some malware. After all the cleaning, I realized it was the program that is not loading, not opening to make it useful for ANYTHING?

To improve the above - and prevent a user unlocking a sheet that is protected without a password - I am thinking we could write a timer event that re-locks a sheet if it has been unlocked manually by the user.  The timer event could fire every few seconds say.   I will come back with some code once I have had a chance to try this idea - unless anyone else beets me to it!

Supporting the above post I submit code for Sheet Lock & Unlock - using a blank password for Excel 2013, or other password for any earlier version.

The code is designed to only use a blank password if current Excel Version is 2013, otherwise a VBA constant value is used.

Place the following code into a new module:
