Hi Michael,

My problem was solved after restarting/starting SOFTWARE PROTECTION service in windows 8, that service was stopped and its behaviour was Automatic(Delayed Start). So i just start that service and error gone. YOu try this as well.

My answer to this problem was a visit with a guy in Mumbai Microsoft Customer Service.  Very helpful, took over my computer and ironed out all the kinks.

I found a fix  that actually worked.

Click windows button then click on Settings icon. Then click on Apps & Features.

Scroll down till you see Microsoft Home and Student 2016 or whatever version of Microsoft you have listed. Click on it.

Click Modify. Then select Quick Repair and then click on Repair.

Worked like a charm for me I hope it helps some of you.
