Where is "ignore rule" in Word 2013?

I cannot find "Ignore rule" in grammar and spelling check for Word 2013. Further, I cannot find any documentation that indicates it exists in this edition of Word.

Did Microsoft get rid of this awesome feature? How is that possible?

WORK AROUND TO ACCESS "IGNORE RULE" FEATURE:

Hi, I was having the same problem, but someone in this thread suggested the feature had not been removed (as it wasn't in a list of removed features), but simply "missed" in the new UI.

This made me wonder if perhaps there was a way to use VBA to create a macro that would directly access the "ignore rule" button.

It didn't take me long to discover that Word 2013 actually contains the "old-style" spelling and grammar check UI, complete with the "ignore rule" option, still working but not normally accessible.

If you are a VBA beginner the following are detailed instructions:

In word, hit Alt+F11 to open VBA

Right click on "Normal" in the left hand side project pane, and select "Insert" and "Module"

Right click on the module you've selected and select "View Code"

In the right-hand side window, paste the following:

Sub OldStyleSpellcheck()'' OldStyleSpellcheck Macro'' This macro open the old (2010) style Spelling and Grammar window        Application.Dialogs(wdDialogToolsSpellingAndGrammar).Show   End Sub

Now close VBA

If you want a quick way to access this macro, in Word go to "File", "Options" and select "Quick Access Toolbar". Under the drop-down menu "Choose commands from" select "Macros" and you should see the Normal.Module.OldStyleSpellCheck. Select it and click the "Add > >" button to move it to your toolbar. You can use the "Modify" button to change it's appearance.

After hitting OK you'll see the icon for this macro along the top of word in the Quick Access Toolbar. You can click this instead of the usual spell check button and it will run the "old style" word spell check window, allowing you to select "ignore rule" as you always could!

Would be nice if Microsoft incorporated this feature into the new UI instead of required such a rigmarole to get to it.

    What programs are you referring to, Claudia?  Others besides Open Office?  I have to be able to "fool" my clients into thinking I'm using MS Word.

    There are many free and low cost alternatives to Office. Some of them are completely independent of Office, but others try to emulate Office, partially/fully recreating the old Menu and sometimes the Ribbon and features.

    Many of them provide extensive feature support in the Word DOC, DOCX formats. They can open, edit, save or create DOC/DOCX format files that Word can use transparently.  If you were using one of these the only concern you have is to ensure that your clients are not going to use Word features that the alternate program does not support.  That is most significant when dealing with the most current versions of Office, the alternatives may not have had time to implement those specific new features.

    One place you most likely won't be able to fool your clients is if you want to use the "collaborative" editing in sharepoint, ie more than one person editing the same file at the same time.

    Clutter? Seriously? I wonder if we can get it put back in. Sheez. I would have never ever upgraded to 2013 if I knew i twas gone. 

    I haven't seen any official documentation on the "clutter" explanation.  I found this page:

    which has the most detailed list of changes I've found for Word / Office, especially deleted features.  (Gee, too bad MS has decided that Technet is a waste of money.  I wonder what will happen to the content that is already there? It would be a shame to lose it all.)

    It does not mention removing the "Ignore Rule" command.  That leads me to think it is an "oops". The button was accidentally lost during the change in UI. Not that MS is likely to admit that, hence the "clutter" excuse.

    Yes, it's ridiculous. Word 2013 is designed for people who are NOT writing professionals. And you're right, it is insane to ask you to mark every single line - just like it's insane for me to ignore every single Chicago Manual designed ellipsis. 

    Word 2013 is clearly designed for amateurs. Gratefully, there are better programs out now.

    I cannot believe that Microsoft is so incompetent that it actually removed a feature as necessary as the "ignore grammar rule" feature in Word.  Please tell me it ain't so.

    It's so. There doesn't seem to be much we can do about it except find programs that work better or dial back. I went back to Word 2010

    Sorry I didn't see this, Roberta. There's Schriever, of course. Atlantis is very good and $35. You can create eBooks out of either of those programs, which you can't do in Word.

    I guess the key is that MS Word is now really for the non-working writer crowd.
