I keep getting the error "We're sorry, but Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Word will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?" when I start up word, powerpoint, excel, or any other other office program. I have tried both the quick repair and online repair but still get this error. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the 32 and 64 bit versions but still get this error. My computer is running Windows 7 and this is on Office 2013 Professional Plus. Please help as this problem is very annoying and takes about 10 minutes to repair before I can use any office program.

Here's how i fixed the exact error message people are reporting in this thread.

When i tried to change the compatibility mode on Winword.exe i found there were no options abvailable so i right clicked and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility.

From here select Troubleshoot Program then tick I Can't See My Problem Listed and then select Windows 8 from the next screen and apply the changes and it worked.

I should also note i had Abbyy finereader installed and the plugin was causing Word to crash so i simply opened in safe mode and disabled the plug-in.

Hope that at least helps someone.

I just did what you mentioned Mpw1979 as far as your mentioning the following

"When I tried to change the compatibility mode on Winword.exe I found there were no options available so I right clicked and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility.

From here select Troubleshoot Program then tick I Can't See My Problem Listed and then select Windows 8 from the next screen and apply the changes and it worked."

This worked for me as far as getting Word 2013 to open.  I didn't seem to find if Abbyy Reader was on there or not but it didn't seem to matter for me.

If I notice anything else, I will PROMPTLY respond.

Has anyone determined a solution for Word not opening correctly yet?  I am using HUP Microsoft Office Professional 2013.  I have tried all of the steps in this post and NONE of them are working.  All of my programs in this suite was working however just a few days ago, my Word stopped working.  When I click on Microsoft Word, it acts as if it will open but then a pop up appears saying "We're sorry, but Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly.  Word will be closed as a result."

All of my other Office programs open and work perfect.  The only issue I'm having is with Word.  PLEASE some help!
