I keep getting the error "We're sorry, but Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Word will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?" when I start up word, powerpoint, excel, or any other other office program. I have tried both the quick repair and online repair but still get this error. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the 32 and 64 bit versions but still get this error. My computer is running Windows 7 and this is on Office 2013 Professional Plus. Please help as this problem is very annoying and takes about 10 minutes to repair before I can use any office program.

Here's how i fixed the exact error message people are reporting in this thread.

When i tried to change the compatibility mode on Winword.exe i found there were no options abvailable so i right clicked and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility.

From here select Troubleshoot Program then tick I Can't See My Problem Listed and then select Windows 8 from the next screen and apply the changes and it worked.

I should also note i had Abbyy finereader installed and the plugin was causing Word to crash so i simply opened in safe mode and disabled the plug-in.

Hope that at least helps someone.

    Have you activated the current installation of Office?  Under File>Account, do you see Product Activated?

    If not, see:

    If that does not help, then you might remove all traces of the Office installation by downloading the fixit from the following article:

    saving it to your computer and then running it.

    Then, after re-starting your computer, reinstall Office by logging into www.office.com/myaccountwith your registered email address and click Install Office.

    BEFORE REMOVING THE OFFICE INSTALLATION,  MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT AND THAT OFFICE IS ASSOCIATED WITH IT!

    If you actually have Office (locally installed) rather than the subscription version provided through Office 365, then you can't get Office through your Microsoft Account. Instead, see

    I had Microsoft 2016 that came with computer and it expired so I tried to install 365 it says its installed but I can not use the program I keep getting the error message. It keeps closing out on me and I have to reopen it. I do online classes and it is getting very frustrating to be writing a paper and you have to keep restarting it to try and finish. First the install button is not working but its on there I also have the option to work from the school program but it is doing the same thing. I need help with this problem.

    It is Nov. 2017.  I know most of the advice on this page is from 2013, but since an automatic Windows 10 update, when I try to send email from ACT! Pro, via Outlook, I get the error above, namely "We're sorry, but Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Word will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?"

    I have tried the following, to no avail:

    Latest update to ACT! Pro

    Latest updates to Office 2013 products

    Changing compatibilty of Word and Outlook to Windows 8 and Windows XP, and also accepting "Recommended settings

    Opening winword.exe and outlook.exe as Administrator

    Eliminating all addins in Outlook

    Opening winword.exe and outlook.exe in safe mode before starting ACT! Pro

    Any assistance would be much appreciated.
