How do I email a .pdf attachment through a mail merge Word & Outlook 2010

We email out group interest letters, the merge letter is created in Word 2010 and than email through mail merge Outlook 2010. We attached a .pdf flyer to each email. (at this time we are email one at a time.)

Is there a way to attach a .pdf file to an email blast (mail merge)? We are running XP right now but will be changing to Windows 7 with in the coming weeks.

Any help we could get on this would be great. Everything I have been able to pull off the internet is on earlier visions of Microsoft Office and Windows.

Thank you in advance.

I have looked at this but this is for earlier versions of Microsoft Office. I need something that will work with Office 2010, but thank you!

While the method to which Gordon gave you the link will work with any version of Word from Word 97 onwards, I have developed a much simpler method that you can use if you download the MergeTools – 20120225 Add-in that I created from the following page of my OneDrive:

https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=5aedcb43615e886b#cid=5AEDCB43615E886B&id=5AEDCB43615E886B%21566

The mergetools template must be saved in the Word Startup folder.

You can do that with the MergeTools – 20140218.dotm Add-in that I created that you can download from the following page of my One Drive:

    http://bit.ly/1hduSCB

The file needs to be saved in the Word Startup folder.  In Windows XP the default location for that folder is

    C:\Documents and Settings[User Name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 it is

    C:\Users[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP

When that has been done and Word is started\re-started, the tab shown below will be added to the Ribbon:

One thing to note is that the field names in the data source must contain only alphanumeric characters (No @,#,$,%,&,(,), etc) and the field names must not start with a numeric character (0-9).

You may also want to download:

    1. the Merging with Attachments document that is also on that page which explains how the system is used.  It is not actually necessary to have separate attachments as the facility can be used to send just the documents created by the merge itself as attachments, either as the body of the message itself or in the form of Word files or .pdf files.
    2. the Mail Merging with Charts document that is also on that page.  That document explains how you must set up the Excel Data Source and the Mail Merge Main document to be able to execute a merge with a Chart that is unique to each record in the data source.
    3. the Using the Many to One Facility document that describes how to use that facility.

Can anyone explain this to a person with limited tech skills and terminology? I just don't know the lingo well enough to follow many of these instructions.

I'm using Office 2010 and am trying to set up a system that will automatically send training certificates to attendees. I have a Word 2010 template that I created and the merge data (attendee names and email addresses) is in an Excel spreadsheet.

The end result I'm trying to achieve will be a certificate (.pdf file) attached to an email with text in both the subject line and in the message area. So far I can send an email with a Word attachment and text only in the subject line.  The buttons on the Acrobat ribbon don't do anything and neither does the "Merge to Adobe PDF" button on the Mail Merge ribbon.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance that can be given!

Isn't that what "Select the merge fields that contain the path and filename of attachments" is saying?

#1 - thank you for creating this.  (It's almost very helpful, if I can just get past one more step.)

#2 - I am successfully using the "Merge with Attachments" option, but when the email sends, the body of the email contains <<Greeting Line>> and not the customized greeting I created using the 'letter' merge mail wizard.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks again!

I needed to select any variables that I used under the section that says:

"Select the merge fields that contain the path and filename of attachments"

I suggest including language to indicate this.

    Thanks!
