How do I email a .pdf attachment through a mail merge Word & Outlook 2010

We email out group interest letters, the merge letter is created in Word 2010 and than email through mail merge Outlook 2010. We attached a .pdf flyer to each email. (at this time we are email one at a time.)

Is there a way to attach a .pdf file to an email blast (mail merge)? We are running XP right now but will be changing to Windows 7 with in the coming weeks.

Any help we could get on this would be great. Everything I have been able to pull off the internet is on earlier visions of Microsoft Office and Windows.

I have looked at this but this is for earlier versions of Microsoft Office. I need something that will work with Office 2010, but thank you! 

While the method to which Gordon gave you the link will work with any version of Word from Word 97 onwards, I have developed a much simpler method that you can use if you download the MergeTools – 20120225 Add-in that I created from the following page of my OneDrive:

The mergetools template must be saved in the Word Startup folder.

    Hi Doug,

    Thanks for this, however when I get to document 5 of 83 on a 'Merge to Individual Docs' task, the merge stops and the 5th PDF is corrupted - giving the error 'file is damaged, perhaps sent as an email attachment but not correctly coded.'

    I'm using Word 2010 (14.0.6112.5000) and Adobe Reader 9.

    Any ideas?

    I have the same issue as Shannon and downloaded and installed your template, Doug. However, how do I use it with my merge document and excel recipient file?

    Not directly, it requires an Excel data source. However, it is relatively easy to insert a text data source into an Excel spreadsheet.

    No, you will need to open the text file in Excel and save it as an Excel file and then attach the Excel file to the mail merge main document as the data source.
