This is how I solved the problem:

Go to File, Options, Proofing and click on Custom Dictionaries. Then pick the dictionary language. Then you will see your language in the list with a checked box next to it.  Remove the check and check it again. Then click OK and OK. And hopefully your problem will be solved.

This worked for me, I hope works for you too.

Yes, but if you don't set the language to English(UK), Word does not spell check the document in British English and carries on checking in US English.  This is the point of setting it to English(UK)!  See I'm even dropping the 'u' in language instead of writing languague!

You must set the language of the document to English (UK) to get spell checking in that language (and that means that every bit of text in the document must  have that formatting). That is irrelevant to the language setting of the user dictionary. For more on the way Word handles languages in documents, see http://WordFAQs.mvps.org/MasterSpellCheck.htm.

If you've gone through the time portal to the 1990s and checked out the link given and the 'help' there, perhaps you've encountered the problem where Word is dumb enough to false-positive a capitalised form of a word but too clever to allow you to add it to your dictionary.

Simply drill down into the dictionary in your settings and manually type the word with the capitalisation that you require.

FWIW the tone on this thread is ridiculous (I'm talking to you Microsoft Very Piouses).

If you post the same solution you've pasted into every reply triggering the keyword filter you use to identify questions (we know you don't read them) and someone comes along saying that they've seen you post that 100 times elsewhere and it didn't help, you have two options:

    a) READ THE ACTUAL QUESTION AND RESPOND WITH YOUR OWN VERIFIED AND TESTED SOLUTION, NOT A LINK TO ONE OF YOUR CRONIES

    b) UNMARK YOUR QUESTION AS THE ANSWER AND LEAVE THE THREAD.
