add to dictionary greyed out in word 2010

i'm not able to add words to my dictionary in word 2010.  when i right click on an underlined word, 'add to dictionary' is greyed out.  please help!

This is how I solved the problem:

Go to File, Options, Proofing and click on Custom Dictionaries. Then pick the dictionary language. Then you will see your language in the list with a checked box next to it.  Remove the check and check it again. Then click OK and OK. And hopefully your problem will be solved.

This worked for me, I hope works for you too.

    Yes, but if you don't set the language to English(UK), Word does not spell check the document in British English and carries on checking in US English.  This is the point of setting it to English(UK)!  See I'm even dropping the 'u' in language instead of writing languague!

    As stated repeatedly above, the language of the user dictionary should be set to All Languages.

    This greying out problem seems to occur when changing the default language to English(UK). 

    Now by changing the languague setting  (perhaps I should say 'language') settiing back to English(US) the 'add to dictionary'  option is no longer greyed out is then functional.

    As they say across the pond 'Go figure?'
