How do you limit the header and footer to only the first page of a document?

I ant the header and footer to only appear on the first page.

Now it appears on every page OR on every odd page.

You need to enable "Different first page" and put the header and footer content only in the First Page Header and First Page Footer. If you see the header/footer on every page, then you are putting it in the primary Header/Footer. If you're seeing it only on odd pages, then you have enabled "Different odd and even" which makes the primary header/footer the Odd Page Header/Footer.

My first thought would be IF you have multiple section breaks, you have to UNLINK the Headers and Footers from the previous sections.

    Thanks. One has to admit the procedure is clumsy. The blinkered techies at Microsoft seem to think that no one ever writes a letter longer than one page. Let us hope they are able to recognise the glitch and fix it before long.

    The Header & Footer Tools | Design tab is contextual. It is displayed only when the insertion point is in the header or footer. Step 1 in my instructions is to open the header.

    My version of Word 2010 does not display a tab "Header & Footer Tools / Design" with "Options".

    My version displays (after clicking INSERT): "Header / Footer / Page Number" tabs only.

    There is nothing about "Design" nor "Options" nor "Different First Page"

    I am still STUMPED as to  how to prevent my postal address Header printing on all subsequent pages.
