I keep getting an error message re: ONENOTE when I try to use my newly installed printer. It worked just fine about 5 times then out of the blue when I tried to print again there is an error message which reads: "Before you can use this feature ONENOTE must start for the first time. You can return here and try again after ONENOTE starts." I have no idea how to remedy this. I did a trouble shoot and it shows my printer is working just fine. PLEASE HELP!

It sounds like the OneNote printer got set as the default and you have not started OneNote.
Try this:
Open the Control Panel
Find the printer you want to use
Right click it and choose "Set as default printer"

Here is the Solution
If your computer has window 8 or 8.1-----------
1. Go to bottom right corner of your screen and try scrolling your mouse (arrow sign) around the date and time section or even further right.
2.Then you will see some "signs" or "icons" on the right edge of your computer screen.
3. Choose search sign which looks like "Q", now you are in search menu and type the phrase " One Note" here
4. You will see " One not" search results, just double click on the first one
5. Now you "one note" software is active and running and opens in a page. It looks almost like microsoft word page and has similar options like ( file, print, and so on)
6. On this "One note" page go to file sign and find "print" then choose options " either choose your printer or one note, better choose your printer.
7. Now the go back to to the file you want to print and click print option on that file. This will take you to one note page and your file shows up there. Now click "print option" on one note page.
8. You have printed your materially successfully.
For window 7 or old operating systen, go to " control pannel" find " One note" software and follow from step No 4 to 8 from above.
I have tried to explain it in detail, that's why response got so long. The porcess does not feel that long when you do it. It takes just one minute.

Wholly moley. I got the same thing after years of this post.
This is the first I have worked on this new 2013 one note, word. Whose brilliant idea at MSFT was this.
I just want to print on Word. why make it so frustrating.

Here we are, 2014, and this problem just popped up yesterday on my Vista (I know, it's ancient, but it works just fine). I finally deleted OneNote as a printer option altogether, and the issueu stopped.
