I keep getting an error message re: ONENOTE when I try to use my newly installed printer. It worked just fine about 5 times then out of the blue when I tried to print again there is an error message which reads: "Before you can use this feature ONENOTE must start for the first time. You can return here and try again after ONENOTE starts." I have no idea how to remedy this. I did a trouble shoot and it shows my printer is working just fine. PLEASE HELP!

It sounds like the OneNote printer got set as the default and you have not started OneNote.
Try this:
Open the Control Panel
Find the printer you want to use
Right click it and choose "Set as default printer"

I had the same problem and I want to thank you John, I followed your instructions and the problem was fixed, you save me hours of aggravation.
I too just discovered, even though my printer was still listed, the green check mark was shifted to One Note. And seems I do have Office 2013 , but don't remember installing it...Will say was getting the pop up to update to Office 2013. I ignored it and finally went away, so I thought all was good...Apparently it was installed anyway...
So you might be on right track with Microsofts updates. Yes, very annoying.
I know is completely fruitless to ask Microsoft for any answers.
Oh before I discovered what the printer was "accidently" set to, I went to my Yahoo account and was able to print what I wanted.
I don't use WiFi to connect with my printer, but I suspect that the method of connection is probably not the problem. But it sounds like your computer and printer have gone back to an arrangement that suits you. In my case, it took some time and investigation before I could get the printer to work in its usual way.
I personally have no interest in using One Note at all, so I didn't spend much time trying to figure out how to print using it. For me, the answer was to figure out how to get my own printer (HP) back on the list of printers in the Control Panel, get it set as the default, and delete the 4 icons for One Note that had mysteriously taken my printer's place in the list after I installed Office Suite 2013.
By the way, some time after that, I again had a problem with One Note trying to take over, only this time my printer was still listed, but the green check mark marking the default printer had been shifted to One Note. The fact that this problem occurred again after I had fixed it makes me think that sometimes one of Microsoft's regular updates screws things up. Whether they do this intentionally or unintentionally, I find it really annoying. Whenever One Note tries to hijack your printer function, I suggest that you check Printers and Devices in your Control Panel to see what printer has the green default check mark on it.
Same here.....why did it change on its own. Just now happened....was working as usual the other day...I didn't change anything
