I am trying to copy a long list of file names in file explorer and paste them into excel so I can keep track of file status, is there an easy way to do this?

    See if this video helps:

How to copy all file names into excel

Thanks a lot. This worked for me.

To anyone following this thread if you have a problem changing the file extension, see this page:  http://www.mediacollege.com/microsoft/windows/extension-change.html

Couldn't follow what was going on in that video.

    1. Right click on your Desktop.
    2. Select New then Text Document
    3. Rename the Nex Text Document.txt to Listing.txt
    4. Open Listing.txt
    5. Type the following, making sure you keep the spacing as is:

    dir/b "." >dirlist.xls

    1. Close the document and click Save
    2. Go to Start and select Computer
    3. Open Desktop
    4. Go to Organize, then to Folder and Search Options
    5. Click the View tab
    6. Uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known filetypes"
    7. Click Aplly and then Ok
    8. Go the the file Listing.txt. Right-click on the name and change the extension from .txt to .bat, then click Enter
    9. Click Yes to confirm the change of the file extension
    10. Move that file into any folder where you want to copy the file names into excel
    11. Double click on the file and it will open an excel document with your files listed.
    12. You can then move Listing.bat to another location if needed

Thanks. I like your add-in, it works very nicely. A lot easier then the other solution I had found.

By the way your link did not work, but I found it by surfing your site, and this worked:  http://www.cpearson.com/excel/FolderTree.aspx

I am bookmarking your website and will browse it at a later stage. Thank you for helping us folks who want to do a little bit more but don't know enough.
