Brilliant - thank you.
You are the only person to give me a method that works.
Thanks again.

Tried setting the starup icon properties to start maximised. Tried setting registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\Options\Maximized to 0x00000003
All to no avail. I've sen the prob reported on lots fo other forums but it's always the solutions noted aboive that are suggested, and jsut as reported on those forums, they don't resolve the issue with Excel 2010.

Yessssss !!!! Thank you very much.
So when this problem will be solved in the next Office 2010 patch?
This is a problem...... that should be solved asap,....
Thank you.
This has been there since Office 2010 was released and SP1 did nothing to fix it. I wouldn't get my hopes up.
No traffic recently on this but this is driving me nuts. The discussion above seems like what appears to be a bigger problem of Excel just not remembering where it was last closed. I don't want to have my window open maximized, I just want it to open where I last closed it. Excel used to do this and now it sort-of does it. It seems like once in a blue moon it will remember and then it gets stuck there. Right now, "stuck there" is about 1/4 size on my second monitor. I'm getting tennis elbow from constantly dragging it back to my main monitor. I've never seen this with anything before Windows 7. I believe it has occasionally happened with other applications but can't reproduce that right now. It definitely happens on all of the Windows 7 computers that I use on a regular basis.
Perhaps this is different from the above since I'm not necessarily wanting it to open maximized. If so, pointers would be greatly appreciated, especially by my right elbow!
Thanks,
Jim
Grasping at straws here since I don't have 2010, but one thing that works in some applications is to:
- open,
- maximize,
- then hold the Shift key down while clicking the close button.
Works (usually) for IE (XP and Vista), and has worked for XL2007 on Vista for me
Worked for XL2007 - thanks
