Tried setting the starup icon properties to start maximised. Tried setting registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\Options\Maximized to 0x00000003

All to no avail. I've sen the prob reported on lots fo other forums but it's always the solutions noted aboive that are suggested, and jsut as reported on those forums, they don't resolve the issue with Excel 2010.

    No, not a command line switch, jsut the propert setting for the icon -- right click any icon, select Propoerties,  and you'll see a setting called "Run" which allows yo to set for Maximized, NOrmal, of Minimized. It works for most programs, but not Excel 2010.

    So, you still have 2 icons to run Excel two different ways.  My solution provides the same UI experience.  O course, you can always choose to wait for Microsoft to fix the issue -- if it plans to do so.

    Alas, even the script won't start xcel maximized either, not as long as there's a personal file in the xlstart directory (the autoload directory) and it loads  the file hidden.

     My guess is that Excel loads maximized (ru the script is run or the icon property is set for maximized), then loads the hidden, autoload file and changes it's run mode -- so anything that would normallly set the run mode for Excel won't work in 2010.

    Try this workaround: place the following code in PERSONAL.XLSB, in ThisWorkbook:

    Private Sub Workbook_Open()

        Application.WindowState = xlMaximized

    End Sub

    I figured this out, at least on WIN 7...

    No need for any code or anything...

    Open EXCEL, then DRAG the size of your window to the Max SIZE.  Dont click Maximize.  In win 7 once you it gets to big, it will automatically maximize the window.

    Close Excel....

    Open and you will be Max-Daddy!

    Oh and as you said above...make sure you have the shortcut (icon) properties set to maximized.

    Happy Computing

    That is exactly what I had to do Andreas. This is a bug in Excel 2010. Doesn't affect everyone it seems, but it definitely affects some of us.
