Word 2010 will not print images or text boxes

I have a Word 2010 doc that will not print images or text boxes, of which the doc contains twenty or so. I have tried printing to different printers (different brands/models) in our office, to no avail. When printing to PDF (Acrobat Pro, not Word's built-in distiller), it works; so does doing a Save As using the built-in PDF distiller. Curiously, a single image in the doc does, in fact, print; it was imported from a 2003 doc (however, so were most of the other images that are not printing). In addition, I have a SmartArt component (org chart) that is printing fine.

Any suggestions on a solution are appreciated. Converting to PDF each time I need to print is tedious and should not be necessary when using the world's most popular word processor...

I think you are correct. This does sound like a problem with the printer driver. Check to make sure that you have the latest driver and then delete and reinstall the printer.

    When WORD 2010 users are experiencing this problem I found that they all had this reg key

    and users who did not have this problem did not have this regkey

    we removed this one regkey and they could print without problems.

    How to get there remember in the start menu type in regedit and press enter

    Then the users password must be put in so that you are checking that users reg keys

    navigate to current user hive

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\StatusBar\MacroRecord

    Delete that regkey MacroRecord

    Remember to test it you need to log the user off and back on again for the current reg keys to take effect.

    This solved the issue for all our users. Even when they have images outside the margins.  No more need to save as an earlier version. No more need to save as PDF.

    Found a work around I did save as then select the file type of .doc which is an earlier version of word – then when you open it word will be in compatibility mode and it prints everything.

    Word 2013 will hide most pictures in Draft view. The situation improves if you save in an older file format, which means that the document displays in Compatibility mode.

    However, assuming that you view documents in Print Layout view, there should be no problem showing graphics. If you still see a problem, take a look at http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/InvisibleGraphics.htm and possibly also http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/RedX.htm for a permanent fix in that view.

    The HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\StatusBar\MacroRecord value shouldn't affect the display of images in Word. The value controls whether you see the Record Macro button on the status bar or not.
