Word 2010 will not print images or text boxes

I have a Word 2010 doc that will not print images or text boxes, of which the doc contains twenty or so. I have tried printing to different printers (different brands/models) in our office, to no avail. When printing to PDF (Acrobat Pro, not Word's built-in distiller), it works; so does doing a Save As using the built-in PDF distiller. Curiously, a single image in the doc does, in fact, print; it was imported from a 2003 doc (however, so were most of the other images that are not printing). In addition, I have a SmartArt component (org chart) that is printing fine.

Any suggestions on a solution are appreciated. Converting to PDF each time I need to print is tedious and should not be necessary when using the world's most popular word processor...

I think you are correct. This does sound like a problem with the printer driver. Check to make sure that you have the latest driver and then delete and reinstall the printer.

    We have had this problem in Word 2010 since we rolled it out about 5 years ago.  It's intermittent and only effects some users.

    We have all the correct settings for images to print.  Most of the time they print without any problems, but then suddenly they stop printing - even though they show up in Print Preview.

    The only workaround we've found is to close and reopen Word, and then images start printing again.

    Nothing worked for me until I saved the new word document (including inserted jpeg image as a picture) as a PDF, then printed the PDF document straight off, perfectly. I had scanned a sketch, saved it as a jpeg, opened a new word document, inerted jpeg image of sketch, worked over with text it in word, saved it as a PDF, then printed that. That way I didn't have to format anything, or adjust any settings.

    I have uploaded an example of the problem I have

    Word2010Test

    Word 2010 document with boxes and text inside the boxes.

    All print previews correctly but when you print only the arrows print.

    All boxes and their text do not print.

    If you save it as an earlier version of Word it will print perfectly.

    Then you need to save it back as Word 2010 and tick the "Maintain compatiabilty" to continue to be able to print the correctly in the future.
