I have several clipart objects in a drawing canvas and I want to align them with each other and within the canvas. The alignment options are all greyed out regardless of whether I have "align to page" or "align to canvas" selected.

This happens in Word 2010 on both Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Summarising:

1 - Inside the canvas you cannot align objects

2 - You have to move object outside the canvas in order to align them, BUT:

3 - Outside the canvas you cannot use connectors...

A bit frustrating for people who work every single day with word...

I think it's a ruse to make people pay lots of money for Visio.

It's such a shame. I cannot believe it would be difficult to fix. Being able to do flow charts within Word would be useful, not least because you can include cross references - e.g. to more details. ("In at-risk group (table 1 on p7)?" which will update automatically.

I've started using the free Chrome app Gifty...

    WOW.

When i couldn't align objects in word 2010 (in 2014), I googled and found this thread. Seems people having been having this ridiculous problem for 4 years.

Its threads like these and problems like these that make me fear for Word and Microsoft's future.
