I have several clipart objects in a drawing canvas and I want to align them with each other and within the canvas. The alignment options are all greyed out regardless of whether I have "align to page" or "align to canvas" selected.
This happens in Word 2010 on both Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Yeah, this is really frustrating me. As the title says: cannot align objects within a canvas in Word 2010. The option 'Align selected objects' is greyed out.
To top it off, Microsoft will not let me raise a support ticket: their support web page tells me that my product ID is for some 'Home Use Program' version and has expired. well that isn't true, I bought it from a Microsoft recommended online retailer with a student discount.
I'm trying to type out course notes, and there's lots of places where I want to use boxes and connectors. I can't get a simple vertical line from one box to another without the centre align function!

I have written some tiny code to avoid this issue.
With this code you can align items on the canvas.
I hope this will be some help for someone.
A table may work for object alignment. Create table; insert objects into table. Select the table and take off borders. You'd have to resize table and objects until you get the right visual.
Defeaturing is really not what I expect from Microsoft.

Since I'm using Word 2010 I'm discovering a lot of stuff that does not work anymore. I agree that there are plenty of new features.
