How do I change the color of Strikethrough without changing the color of the text?

Hello,

I have Word 2007. I want to achieve red Strikethrough upon normal black text.

I would be grateful to know how to do this, or if, as I suspect, it is not possible, then I would also be interested to know why Microsoft has not provided this quite obviously needed function.

Crossing something out electronically is a nonsense; period. That the facility is even made available is a questionable use of resources. If you really want to strikethrough in a colour other than the text colour, you must use fields (see http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/Overbar.htm) to overlay your text with struckthrough spaces, and format the spaces in whatever colour you want.

    Sure changing text attributes will cause the line to be displaced.  But then again, how often do you change the font/size of text that has been marked for deletion? 

    This sort of issue is to be expected when you are using a workaround. If you have used the workaround and you change font attributes, you will be aware that you have to change the associated strikethrough line.

    Each step in the procedure using a drawing line is actually headlined "Creating Your Own Strikethrough."

    Using the Picture Position tab of the Advanced Layout dialog (Drawing Tools | Format | Arrange | Position | More Layout Options...) you can anchor the line relative to a character (horizontal) and line (vertical) which should preserve its position even when the text moves. (The referenced article also advises selecting "Move with text.") But of course all of this is still way more trouble than it's worth.

    I refer to contributor Nice's response of October 8, 2015 with their linked movie:

    Although that appears to do what I was suggesting in starting this Question, unfortunately it does not yet appear to be available in Microsoft Word.

    Regarding Suzanne S. Barnhill's response of October 23, 2015:

    While I cannot actually see a heading "Creating Your Own Strikethrough", there was a suggestion to use AutoShapes and ancor them, but I replied (May 14, 2013) to express concern that changing the font type or font size of the text, could cause the autoshape-line to end in an unexpected (unwanted) place.
