Excel 2010 crashes when using print preview button and adding headers/footers

I am using Office 2010 Professional with Windows 7. The installation was successful and I have no other issues with any Office programs except Excel 2010. Whenever I use the print preview button on the Quick Access Toolbar to check the print preview before printing, or use headers/footers to add these before printing, Excel crashes and forces a restart when I next go to save the document. It may allow me to do up to 3 print previews before I go to save the document and it crashes and attempts to recover the data or just shuts Excel down after a few times.

All other Office program functions work fine and I have checked my printer driver with a Microsoft utility and it reports no issues.

Can anyone help?

Hi Alex,

Thank you for sharing with us. I have a HP Officejet Pro L7590 all in one printer. No problem with Excel 2003 or 2007 or any other MS Office program in 2003, 2007 or 2010. Just Excel 2010. Hmmmmmmm.....very strange.

Since my last post above, I have called Microsoft and got the BS about having to spend $250 for a MS professional tech to "solve" my problem. I find this insulting and I am not alone. I found other message boards on MS websites with other users having similar problems with Excel 2010 and MS ignoring the problem with platitudes and suggesting that we, the users, should pay to "solve" their problem. It was suggested to me that I uninstall and reinstall Office Professional 2010 which I have done and guess what, same problem so I am more convinced that ever that MS2010 has a bug which MS is not acknowledging.

If MS has a solution, and it appears it does not or is burying its head in the proverbial sand, (evidenced by Raju's strange silence above and on other sites) then it should front up and publish it for all to use.. If not, it should front up, admit it and help its loyal followers without expecting them to pay it to fix its own problems.

If not, I suspect that Apple and open source sales will continue their steady rise as a more viable alternative.....

Keep in touch please. Now 3 people on this are suffering with the same problem. I hope that MS will start to respond and fix the problem.

I am having the same problem as you. Again I've done all the things mentioned above but to no avail. I've seen another similar post and the problem was with the printer. With an inkjet there was a problem and with a laser it was OK.

I have an HP Photosmart C4280, in fact I have two and it does the same with both. I've downloaded the latest drivers from HP but no joy. Which printer do you have?

I don't think it will fix the problem but it may help Microsoft solve the problem. As and when I have access to another printer I'll try it to see if there is any difference.

Raju,

I am still waiting for an effective fix. Please let me know if you can help or not? If not, where can you refer me to for assistance with Excel 2010? It keeps crashing regularly and its hard for me to get my work done.

Raju,

I tried the clean boot, disabled all services, opened the test excel file I created today (see my response above/below) and the same error created after I used print preview.

I think there is a code flaw in Excel 2010 unless you have something else to suggest.
