I am testing Excel 2010 on a few Windows 7 pc. 2 of them somethings get the following error after saving a file. Click ok and then it appears after 10 seconds. It just keep going on until I kill the excel process. Please assist.

You could try choosing File, Options, Advanced, and under General check Ignore other applications that use DDE.

I got the same error message while trying to number an equation in Word using MathTyepe. I did try to resolve the problem by checking the box next to " Ignore other applications that use DDE" as suggested, but it didn't work.
The Word file I was working on had several excel files and some of them were not embedded. So, first I identified the linked excel charts in my Wrod file and then I replaced them with embedded charts. That resolved the problem.
This did not work for my user. I checked box, shut down Excel. Went into task manager and stopped all excel programs from running. When I opened Excel, got the same error message.

I keep getting this message and even checked to ignore the DDE as suggested by some members here, but the problem was not solve and went on for days. However while handling this problem a message pop up which read that pdf add-on to the excel was creating serious problem and read if i want it disabled. I clicked yes to disable the add-on and the problem is solved. Bingo, the opening and closing of the excel are ok now. I am not an expert in this matter but that happen
