Centering the page in center of your monitor

How do I center a page in the center of my monitor? I go to view > 1 page, but if I do that, although the page is centered, as soon as I zoom in, the entire page is set off to the left, as if it were in a 2 page view. I want to fix my view at one page, centered in the middle of my screen, with any zoom level I like.

using msword 2010, w7 64, 1920x1080 monitor

I learn something new about Word every day ...

I have to go out and can't check this properly at the moment (and the behaviour seems a little odd at first glance) but there is a setting in VBA - Zoom.PageColumns - that (partially) controls what you want. I will dig a little further on my return.

    Whether Word displays in two page view or one page view is automatically determined by the Word window size, the zoom level and the current resolution of the monitor. You can see the point at which the transition occurs for a given windows size by zooming 1 percent at a time from the Zoom dialog.

    Hi Graham, Thanks for the response.

    Several questions -

    1. is there a way, anyway (including registry hacks) to change this behavior? I will almost never want 2 pages displayed at once. I cannot type a document while looking at at the far left side of a screen. This means my entire setup forces me to sit at an angle, and look at an angle. I can't believe that this behavior couldn't be changed; it is an ergonomic nightmare.... I am willing to prevent a two pane view entirely.

    Might it be possible to make word think that the document is being opened on a smaller monitor? or a way to edit normal.dot to remove this functionality?

    1. if there is no way, can you tell me which version of word was the first to implement this unavoidable "feature"? I upgraded to 2010 with a new monitor so I am not sure. I am thinking of downgrading or trying alternative solutions. I can't afford the discomfort and neck pain that will develop from having to literally turn my entire head, and contort my body, to see in this current setup.

    This has always been the way Word behaves. Make your Word window narrower or your view zoom level higher.

    Thanks, but I do not want huge text nor do I want to work in a windowed environment. No software that contributes to causing physical discomfort or pain is worth using.

    I find it very hard to believe that word has always been like this. Can anyone confirm that Word 2007, 2003, XP, and 2000 exhibit the same behavior?

    Can anyone else chime in on whether there is some modification -anything - that can be made to stop this behavior in any version of Word?
