Make sure that the correct language is applied to text. On the Review tab, click Language | Set Proofing Language.

Also, as long as you have the Language dialog box open, make sure to clear the "Detect language automatically" option. Doing so will prevent the language from changing at the insertion point.

There was a typo in that link; it has been corrected to http://office.microsoft.com/Research/query.asmx but still doesn't work.

It happened for me about a fortnight ago (end March 2016). I've tried an earlier un-patched version of Word2010 which does still work - I've blocked automatic updates on that version of W7 and O2010. My guess is one of Microsoft's updates possibly unintentionally borking the feature. Anyone else suffering?

Symptoms: When you right-click a word, it does give synonyms, but when you click the Thesaurus option, you get 'No Results Found'. Ditto with the research sites.

MS made me change my Microsoft Account password because they thought there was tampering. I changed my password and lost my dictionary. I had to sign into my Microsoft Account again from inside Word with the new password. I clicked on Thesaurus and got a message to sign in again.
