Only get a red x after merging pictures

My data source is an xlsx file and one field (PictureLocation) has the full path name of each jpg file I want to merge into a document.  I use this merge function:  {INCLUDEPICTURE "MERGEFIELD PictureLocation}"} which works fine except I only get a box with a small red x in upper left-hand corner where the picture should be.  I have tried F9, but to no avail.  What am I doing wrong or what have I set incorrectly?  I use VISTA and OFFICE 2007. dottybee

What is in the PictureLocation field?

The filepath separators need to be duplicated \ or you need to use / as a separator.

    I do not think we can rely on what geegolly has said before.  However, if he will give us the correct answers to the questions that have been asked, we should then be able to give him a "join the dots" method of doing it.

    If that is the answer to the third question, it is not correct.

    Once again, the third question is:

    What is the name of the field in your data source that is intended to contain the information relating the pictures (e.g. the file name of the picture, with or without the path.)?

    What you need to tell us is what is the name of the field in the data source?

    The information that you have provided is probably the answer to the fourth question.
