In any spreadsheet now the right click no longer opens the menu. I can't copy and paste, edit or anything else. The mouse works in word and other applications, and in fact works in the header or menus of excel. But if I got to a cell, it will not open upon right click.

Try this:
From your worksheet, press Alt + F11. careful, that's ALT + F11
Next press Ctrl+G
Type in (or copy here and paste)
Application.CommandBars("Cell").Reset
Then press the Enter key.
Press Alt+Q to return to the worksheet.
Click your right mouse button on any worksheet cell. Does your right click menu appear now?
I think the sheet may be password protected.
Check in sample new file, if it happens the same.

It's now November 2014, and I've got the same problem in my Excel 2007 application. The right-click context (shortcut) menus (in cells and columns/rows) do not work in any workbook, including a fresh workbook with no content, no macros, no add-ins, nothing. The menus are only disabled in my account. I can go to use Excel 2007 in another account and the context menus work fine there. I've tried to repair Office using the distribution DVD as an admin - did nothing. The problem seemed to start when I was experimenting with the RAND Excel function in cells.
This experimenting also caused Excel 2007 to not work at all, displaying an empty worksheet (no cells) and the following error on start-up "There was a problem sending the command to the program." I investigated that and found Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB211494. I tried that solution (Resolution: Turn off the "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" setting). That cleared up the start-up problem, but the context menus continue to be unavailable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Ralph!! Thank you SOOO MUCH for this tip! That was EXACTLY what was happening in my Excel--with Essbase installed. I've been tearing my hair out for an hour trying to get my damn right-click working again! Every time I right clicked or double clicked I'd get a prompt to login to Essbase! By changing this setting in Essbase, I now have the use of my double-click again to check cell formulas instead of clicking F2 all the time. You're amazing!!
For those who didn't find any solution...
Go to C:\users%username%\Appdata\Roaming\Excel and rename the Excel14.xlb (or similar) to .xlb.old. That way Excel will generate a new .xlb file. Check if that works.
