64 bit driver for DSN for MS access database

I have windows 7 professional 64 version on my laptop.  I tried locating DSN (data source name) for MS access data. 

It is giving me an option for only SQL server database.

Defining connectivity to MS access database through DSN is very critical to my ASP applications working through IIS (internet information services)  After reviewing the solutions on the web I concluded currently there is no 64 bit driver.

Should I downgrade my windows 7 professional to 32 version

Hi smantha11,

Currently Microsoft does not have any 64 bit ODBC drivers available for the Office products.

However, as long as the application that you want to connect to is 32 bit, you can use the 32 bit ODBC drivers to create the DSN. To get to the 32 bit ODBC drivers, the 32 bit Data Source administrator must be used. The 32 bit Data Source administrator must be launched directly if you are using a 64 bit OS. The file should be located at the following path:

c:\windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

This file will add Access to the list of file types in the ODBC administrator.

Not sure if its 32 or 64 bit. But it worked on a machine running 64bit Win 7

    1 – Uninstall Microsoft Office 2007-2003

    2 – Install these drivers (64bit version) - Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable (you can only install these if you uninstall Office 2007-2003 first)

    3 – You can Reinstall Office 2007-2003 if you want

    4 – You are good to go… (with the 64 version ODBC drivers installed for Microsoft products)

    It’s Working for me in my Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 DSN-ODBC connection

    This one is actually 32bit. There are no 64bit Office 2007 drivers. BUT there is 64bit 2010 Office Driver that works fine with 2007.

    Just remember using "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0", and NOT "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.14.0".

    I'm using the new 64bit Office 2010 drivers with provider name Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0.

    it all works ok for a while reading CSV files and excel sheets etc ok but then throws a "The provider reported an unexpected catestrophic failure"

    My environment is 64-bit Windows 7 running VM Workstation, with a 64-bit Windows 7 guest running SQL Server 2008 64 Bit.  Essentially I'm running the following which works... occasionally getting the failure above

     select top 50 * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0','Text;Database=c:\temp\captell;HDR=Yes', 'SELECT * FROM [DASDGIGS0013046591395.TXT]')

    I've also tried this on Windows server 2003 64bit with SQL Server 2008 64 bit and get the same error.

    Has anyone else had this problem?
