Error 3061 Too few Parameters. Expected 1

I'm using a Union query as a Source for an Append query.  I will leave the code here.  tblGLTransactions and tblGLTranaactionNo. I don't know if that is causing a problem.  The tblGLTransactions has 2 fields, the fiest field GLTransactionNo is an autonumber field, so I didn't append to that field.  I need both tables because of the relationship for a form and subform for GLTransactions.  The entry I'm trying to append closes the year end.  Well, it should.

I should post the union query as well.   I have drained out John Vinson who has been helping my like crazy in the past two days.  This is the final step in completing this database and I cannoyt believe it crashes.

Here is the Union query ......I changed it.  No AccountTypeID and no AcctgDate.  IT's been modified for the extra fields. EDITED 09/12/11 12:51

SELECT qryYearEndReBalanceSheetTotals.AccountID, IIf([TotalTrans]<0,[TotalTrans]*-1,0) AS Debit, IIf([TotalTrans]>0,[TotalTrans],0) AS Credit, 0 AS GLTransactionNo, "Closing Entry" AS Source,qryYearEndReBalanceSheetTotals.TransDate FROM qryYearEndReBalanceSheetTotals

UNION ALL SELECT  ([Forms]![frmYrEndProcessing]![cboRetainedEarnings]) AS AccountID, IIf([SumOfProfit]<0,[SumOfProfit],0) AS Debit, IIf([SumOfProfit]>0,[SumOfProfit],0) AS Credit, 0 AS GLTransactionNo, "Closing Entry" AS Source, DLookUp("FiscalYearEndDate","tblMyCompanyInfo") AS TransDate FROM qryYearEndBalanceSheetProfit;

 Here is the code:  I created another query with GLTansactionNo and AcctgDate.   The same 2 fields as the table.  It still fails with the same Error 3061. Like the Title

I will reply, Rob, if only to wish you good luck.  I wish I'd been able to resolve the issue for you, but I think we'd just be herding those kittens for evermore I'm afraid.

One final point of detail.  I'd recommend:

"#" & Format(Now(),"yyyy-mm-dd hh:nn:ss") & "#" & _

By using the ISO standard for date and time notation it caters for whatever Windows local date format is in use.  As you'd written it, it would fail on my system for instance as the UK short date format is dd/mm/yyyy, so 4th July would be changed to 7 April, which your neighbours to the south would not appreciate.

Mea culpa. I left out spaces in two places.  BEFORE SELECT and BEFORE FROM

strSQL = "INSERT INTO [tblTransactions] (TransDate, AccountID, Debit, Credit," _

        & "Source, GLTransactionNo)" _

        & " SELECT TransDate, AccountID, Debit, Credit, Source," & lngID _

        & " FROM [qryuniYearEndFinalClosingEntry] ;"

        CurrentDb.Execute strSQL, dbFailOnError

If lngId is equal to 33, then Debug.Print should return

INSERT INTO [tblTransactions] (TransDate, AccountID, Debit, Credit,Source, GLTransactionNo) SELECT TransDate, AccountID, Debit, Credit, Source,33 FROM [qryuniYearEndFinalClosingEntry] ;

    Ken,

    Comparing the new query to the line of code, I can only see changes that affect the IIf(SumOfProfit].  Won'y be that bad.

    I will Paste your code and maeke the changes and try to run it.  I forgot to mention, the frmYearEndProcessing will be open.

    Hi Ken,  Same as email.   After Rob is the we Union Query

    It sounds like it may be right, becasue of the instance it is running from code.  The backward correction I had to make was that I had to change my union query this morning because, it was creating alot of Closing entry records for 1 year.. doubling up if you will, because TransDate was on each row. To eliminate all thos extra records(i.e 12 for each accountID at the end of the year) I had to sum the Total Debits and Credits for 1 account.  The Net of that would be the Sum Of Profit.  I'll post  the new Union query which works, but man, I wish I would have done before you made this entry. which I really and truly appreciate.

    The best I can do is try to make the changes to your code and then , like you said, check it on word after the I copy from the immediatw window(Debug)

    Thanks so much Ken.  I will post this in the forum along with my new Union query.  Just to try to be up to date  and test it out.

    Rob

    I had to redo the Union query as follows fo FYI.

    SELECT qryYearEndReBalanceSheetTotals.AccountID, IIf([TotalTrans]<0,[TotalTrans]*-1,0) AS Debit, IIf([TotalTrans]>0,[TotalTrans],0) AS Credit, "Closing Entry" AS Source, 0 AS GLTransactionNo, DLookup("FiscalYearEndDate","tblMyCompanyInfo") AS TransDate

    FROM qryYearEndReBalanceSheetTotals

    UNION ALL SELECT  ([Forms]![frmYrEndProcessing]![cboRetainedEarnings]) AS AccountID, IIf([SumOfProfit]>0,[SumOfProfit],0) AS Debit, IIf([SumOfProfit]<0,[SumOfProfit]*-1,0) AS Credit,  "Closing Entry" AS Source,0 AS GLTransactionNo, DLookUp("FiscalYearEndDate","tblMyCompanyInfo") AS TransDate

    FROM qryYearEndBalanceSheetProfit;

    I wil try to Edit , there shouldn;t be too many changes.

    I just hav a quick question.    The query is nested.   The re is a field required (AccountTypeID) which I used to filter the Data just for Profit and Loss accounts.

    I don't have the is field in tblTransactions.  It is part of the tblChartOfAccounts.  I did away with this field and it is hidden when I created other queries to get totals.  I was always wondering if that had anything to do withis error, because the the queries are nested?

    Thanks for helping  me out.  I don't what I would now wihtout the professional help I'm getting.

    Ron

    I wonder if the problem may be the reference to the  Forms]![frmYrEndProcessing]![cboRetainedEarnings] control as a parameter in the UNION query, and arises from the fact that you are executing an SQL statement from code.  If you do this you either have to concatenate the value of the parameter into the string expression or evaluate the parameter of the querydef object.  In this case the parameter is one step back from the string expression you are constructing in code, so I'd suggest that, rather than using a separate UNION query  you try building the whole kit and caboodle in the code like this:

    Dim strSQL AS String

    Dim strTransDate As String

    Dim lngID  As Long

    strTransDate = "#" & Format(DLookup("FiscalYearEndDate","tblMyCompanyInfo"),"yyyy-mm-dd") & "#"

    lngID = DMax("GLTransactionNo", "tblGLTransactions")

    strSQL = "INSERT INTO [tblTransactions] " & _

        "(TransDate, AccountID, Debit, Credit, Source, GLTransactionNo) "  & __

        "SELECT " & _

        strTransDate & ", " & _

        "AccountID, " & _

        "IIf([TotalTrans]<0,[TotalTrans]*-1,0) AS Debit, " & _

         "IIf([TotalTrans]>0,[TotalTrans],0) AS Credit, " & _

         "Closing Entry" AS Source, " & _

         lngID & " AS GLTransactionNo " & _

         "FROM qryYearEndReBalanceSheetTotals " & _

         "UNION ALL " & _

         "SELECT  " & _

         strTransDate & ", " & _

         [Forms]![frmYrEndProcessing]![cboRetainedEarnings] & ", " & _

         "IIf([SumOfProfit]<0,[SumOfProfit],0), " & _

         "IIf([SumOfProfit]>0,[SumOfProfit],0), " & _

         """Closing Entry"", " & _

         lngID  & _

        " FROM qryYearEndBalanceSheetProfit;"

    CurrentDb.Execute strSQL, dbFailOnError
