I have heard, but cannot confirm, that some people with this problem have found that altering the zoom level (slider in lower right corner of Excel window) gets the multiple seelction to go away

best wishes

I've experienced this problem for years and 'think' I've finally found the solution!  If I do a heavy longer (when I say longer we're talking milliseconds) mouse click it highlights multiple cells however when I do a quick light mouse click it only highlights one cell.

I'm finding it difficult to believe that something has bugged me for so long has such a simple solution.  Let me know if it works for you.

Yes, it is time dependent. If you click within 5-10ms it selects the right cell. But this trick is not a solution.

    Excellent,

Going to normal view from page layout view worked for me and I have been fighting this for at least 5 years now on and off. Will have to see how long it lasts for.

This resolved the issue for me...

when I tapped the shift key 5 times it asked me if I wanted to turn on sticky keys and I said no - the message went away and the issue of multiple cells highlighting as I used the arrow keys was fixed.  Also, weirdly, the Caps lock was also switched whilst I had the select issue - ie, it was giving me CAPS when it was off and lower case when it was on.  This has also resolved the issue.

    Cheers

    Paul
