I have heard, but cannot confirm, that some people with this problem have found that altering the zoom level (slider in lower right corner of Excel window) gets the multiple seelction to go away

best wishes

This problem seems to come from using the Ctrl+ c or v incorrectly.  When it happens, Highlight the entire document by clicking the upper left cornet button to the left of the ruler.  While it is highlighted, click any cell.  Only 1 cell should be active.  Your problem is over until you misuse the Control + C or V again.

Let me make my own speed typing mistakes.

I never ever use Cont. C or V.  I'm a total mousie.  Maybe there are various reasons for this annoying problem and this one explains it for some people, but it wouldn't explain it for me.

I've experienced this problem for years and 'think' I've finally found the solution!  If I do a heavy longer (when I say longer we're talking milliseconds) mouse click it highlights multiple cells however when I do a quick light mouse click it only highlights one cell.

I'm finding it difficult to believe that something has bugged me for so long has such a simple solution.  Let me know if it works for you.

    John
