I have heard, but cannot confirm, that some people with this problem have found that altering the zoom level (slider in lower right corner of Excel window) gets the multiple seelction to go away

best wishes

This problem seems to be linked with the header. If the header is not visible on the screen the multi-select does not occur. As soon as you can see a portion of the header the problem appears.

Hi all, haven't been on here for a while, usually just read the emailed answers.

It's amusing as this thread has gone on for years through quite a few versions of Excel.

It only happens in page layout view, switch out of that and it won't happen, trouble is if your altering a spread sheets physical content then you need to be in page layout view to make sure it fits a page still!

NONE of the get arounds are a cure, that will take Microsoft to re-write some code which they will not do as they just don't care about us users, they got their money from us when we bought it so they think we can go jump!

I have rebuilt complete spread sheets from scratch to get rid of it, a while and it's back!

One guy says he has found out how to replicate it but I'm not inclined to search through 13 pages to find it, semi retired now and have learnt to live with it when I use one of my books with it in.

I'm convinced it's a bug to do with shortcuts, just so may ways to do everything, you hit a couple of keys in error and your off somewhere that takes you ages to get back from.

Word is now a real pain, you just breath and you've got all sorts of pop up menu's opening, editing functions appearing.

Best if ALL those were switched off as standard and you just select which ones you want to use, bet NO ONE ever uses even a small percentage of them all!

    (Pun intended)

I'd still go back to WordPerfect and Quattro Pro in a heartbeat.
