I have heard, but cannot confirm, that some people with this problem have found that altering the zoom level (slider in lower right corner of Excel window) gets the multiple seelction to go away

best wishes

    Hi all.

Been following this thread for years in the vein hope that Microsoft may one day take responsibility for a problem within their program.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NO ONE HAS YET FIXED THIS PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EVERYTHIING written as a fix so far is a get around and the same get around has been said about for years.

I've had it in several versions of Excel.

The get around works for that time only.

IT WILL BE BACK once you have it in a workbook but the get around will work again, it's just damn annoying to have to keep using it while you are working, just an unnecessary operation and one you have to repeat often.

It NEEDS a clever programmer to find the actual bug and write a proper fix so it never comes back.

I have tried many times to get a response from Microsoft but they sit in their ivory tower and must laugh at all us mugs who keep using their products and keep the forums busy trying to solve their problems for them.

The zooming to 200 and back to my original view worked for me. Thank you

I can't say how long term this solution will be, but so far, so good...

I found the problem of multiple cell selection occurring after I defined a named range. After trying all of the solutions provided in this thread (and finding them to be pretty temporary fixes if they worked at all) I decided to define a new named range that consisted of just one cell. This has eliminated the problem of multiple cell selection for over an hour now. Fingers crossed it continues, and hopefully it works for you folks.
