Excel 2007, Undesired selection of multiple cells

Ok, so here is the latest.

I have tried the F8,

I tried the zoom in and out back and forth several times and it seemed to work for about an hour - again out of the blue it started up again and the zoom in and out couldn't correct it again.,

Then I tried the sticky keys comment. Didn't do a thing.

Ahhhhhhh! :) This is very annoying. I am going to find a way to post a video clip showing what is happening. You're going to laugh at how anoying it is, but don't wish it upon anybody lol.

I also have this problem.  I select one cell, and anywhere from three to five contiguous cells are highlighted in the column in which I selected the cell.  I choose one row and anywhere from two to five or six are highlighted.  If I keep clicking the mouse on a cell in which I want to make changes, after about three or four clicks, it will focus on that cell alone.  But, I cannot delete or change any data except by clicking on each cell in a row seveeral times until the system lets me edit that cell.  Also, Excel Help provides exactly no help at all.  There is nothing I can search under in Help that seems to recognize the problem.  Actually, once by accident I found a way to break the hooked together cells and rows, and it had something to do with cell formatting, but I lost my little note sheet for it and i cannot remember how to get to it.  I have tried the various solutions suggested in this thread, but they do not work for me.  The problem drives me crazy when I am doing a series of worksheets and this problem crops up here and there without any known cause on my part.  If I am not careful, I can lose or change data in all cells highlighted thinking that I had selected only one.  FRAN M.

I am using Excel 2007 also, on Windows 7.  Used Excel a TON for YEARS and have never had this problem before switching to this computer and configuration a couple weeks ago.  It just started today, shortly after I started working in a spreadsheet I have used many many times before (but not on this computer).

I find I have the problem particularly when I am at 110% zoom level.  Changing it seems to snap me out of it.  Changing from Page Layout view to any other view also stops the problem.

Currently it only happens on one particular workbook and any others based on this workbook.  Would be too complicated to recreate the workbook to get rid of the problem.

Yes, using the arrow keys and keyboard seems to move me around okay, but there are things you can't do efficiently with the keyboard like select non-contiguous cells.

I am using a Logitech cordless scroll mouse, which some people on other forums have linked to the problem - possibly a driver issue?  Tapping the scroll wheel doesn't help, though.

I do not have a physically or virtually "stuck" Shift Key, and no where in my Excel window does it say I am in Extended mode.  Closing the spreadsheet or Excel and reopening the spreadsheet doesn't help.

My multiple selections are usually 1-2 cells to the right of the cell I am selecting - in other words, all in the same row and contiguous. 

Clicking really fast doesn't work for me, and neither does clicking multiple times on the same cell or clicking in any particular area of the cell (such as towards the very top).  One thing that does work for me is selecting the cell(s) and then dragging my mouse to the left until only one cell is selected - usually I am halfway into the cell to the left before my selection is only the cell I want.

Again, to be clear, only happens to me when in Page Layout view at 110% zoom.  Maybe zoom level could be different on other people's computers depending on the monitor size?  Does it have something to do with the video driver?

Just trying to add information for troubleshooting purposes.  Could it be a feature of Excel 2007 that we may not know about, like selecting cells with similar formatting or something?  Even if it is not a "bug" that needs to be fixed, help is appreciated

I too have this problem,  it shows up out of the blue.

It mostly seems to happen when I have to select multiple cells for any reason and then I cannot stop selecting them - but not always.

I have found that the zoom works some times, also a quick short term solution is to copy an empty cell and then paste it into another empty cell.  It seems anything that refreshes the screen temporarily stops it.

I have also found, just leaving the window open and moving into another program for a few mintues (like typing in the tech forums)  will sometimes resolve the problem.   But I have tried closing all of my excel windows and completely exiting the program and comes right back up.

I also tried the F8 and it did not work.
