Excel 2007, Undesired selection of multiple cells

I am using excel 2007, on occasion when i try to select any one cell it will highlight and select multiple cells. Once this occurs it happens with every cell I click on.

I have heard, but cannot confirm, that some people with this problem have found that altering the zoom level (slider in lower right corner of Excel window) gets the multiple seelction to go away

    More specifically, it only happens to me if some part of the page below is in current view (Also applies Excel 2010). This might be why zooming solves problem temporary.

    And if I release mouse button instantly, it doesn't happen in any view.

    For any still running into this, if you're in page layout view, switch to normal view.

    Reading some of the initial posts on page 1, someone commented about changing from "Page Layout" to "Normal" view.  This seems to have done the trick for me.  I also tried F8 and zoom toggle to no avail.  Going to Normal view then loses some other functionality apparently, like "Split" screen viewing.  I will deal with that instead of the grouped cells.  It's annoying!  Thanks for all the comments.
