Excel 2007, Undesired selection of multiple cells

When I am in "Page Layout" view and I am NOT full screen I have this problem without a doubt. Now, if I stay in that view and magnify the view to 120% the problem goes away. However, if I switch to "Normal" view the problem goes away as well and I can stay at 100% magnification view. You just have to try one of those and see what you prefer. It's totally weird that this "fixes" the problem, but even more weird the problem exists in the first place.

Just a question for my personal info. Did the bug come back after the getaround was used, maybe not in that session but if you went back to that same sheet/book and tried to edit it?

Has it ever happened in another sheet/book?

I've had this for years, made a lot of sheets and books over those years. Now I have

learned to live with this annoying bug but it still wrankles as it just shouldn't happen.

I actually upgraded my version of Excell thinking that would cure it, no such luck and am on several after and it's still there.

I use basic templates then tweek them for individual cases so do, do a lot of cell size and shape editing so data fits an A4 printed sheet for hardcopy for clients.

This bug hits and it's a real pain to edit when not in page layout view.

It's years now and MS never have taken notice of this thread and the bug gets passed on down with new versions so they don't rewrite the whole program ever.

I had the same problem. I tried the zoom like Bernard suggested and it worked. That is the weirdest thing, but solved my problem. Thanks, Bernard!

Hi all.

It will take ALL of us to keep on asking MS when they are going to do something about this. One day someone actually from MS will read it and respond positively.

There is no solution, it only happens in page layout view which is what most people use to make, alter or edit a spreadsheet they intend to print so they can keep the layout fitting their chosen page size.

There are some get-around's that work but to solve it you have to NOT work in page layout view, keep flicking back to it to check your layout while you're selecting cells with the cursor to edit them.

If you bother to run through all the comments over the years there are many gushing about thanks for fixes but there are none, if your book or sheet gets the bug it's there for it's life. I've completely rebuilt books to get rid of it, only to find in days, weeks or months it comes back.

I'm sure it's a fault with keyboard short-cuts, there are so many of them and you can't turn them off so you inadvertently press two keys together and it happens, the bug is there.

There is just so much of this extra controls business that it makes the programs far too complicated, reams and reams of code your machine has to wade through to work. Be FAR better if we could open the programs in SIMPLE view with NONE of all those shortcuts enabled, if we find we need one we can enable it!

But I'm just a grumpy old man, started off using 'Works' on an Apple IIe in the Sahara desert when I worked for an American oil company. Been through all the OS's and versions of Windows and Office suites.

It's sad that these days the makers divorce themselves from their customers and we have to rely on forums and social media to help each other with program problems.

This one has gone through many incarnations of Excel on many versions of OS, it MUST be a coding bug so definitely down to MS to fix it if they can be bothered. I bet the people who have visited this thread are a fraction of those affected by it.

So all you moderators get and pass this problem up, you may have access to MS that we don't as paying customers!

Needing forums is an admission by the maker that they are incapable of sorting out their mess.
