I have heard, but cannot confirm, that some people with this problem have found that altering the zoom level (slider in lower right corner of Excel window) gets the multiple seelction to go away

best wishes

You are not crazy. This has been happening to me for probably a couple years now and I could never figure out how to correct it! I even asked a Microsoft Excel trainer and he had no answer for me. Moving the slider seemed to help but I am sure it will come back just as yours did. Hope you find a correction and share it!

I had the same problem, but when I switch from page layout view to normal view the problem disappear.

Hi. Problem is already about page layout view. And depends on how much portion of the active sheet is visible on screen.

This resolved the issue for me...

when I tapped the shift key 5 times it asked me if I wanted to turn on sticky keys and I said no - the message went away and the issue of multiple cells highlighting as I used the arrow keys was fixed.  Also, weirdly, the Caps lock was also switched whilst I had the select issue - ie, it was giving me CAPS when it was off and lower case when it was on.  This has also resolved the issue.

    Cheers

    Paul
