Excel 2007, Undesired selection of multiple cells

I never had this issue until someone else started working on my excel spreadsheets.  And I have never seen this when we were on 2003.  Currently we are using 2007.  What fixed it for me was switching the View from Page Layout View to Normal View.  I was playing around trying all the things you listed above.  F8, Shift 5 times, zooming with the scroll and nothing. Then I said to myself I had how this person changes all my documents to Page Layout and I switched it to Normal and the problem was gone, LOL.  Curious if you guys are in Page Layout view.

I have noticed that this glitch is present in the 2010 excel!!!!!!! This happens to just about ALL THE COMPUTERS set up on the FS building, which vary in brand and model - all running office 2010 PRO - So it's not a machine based glitch - it's software based.  The zoom in and out fixes it sometimes, but I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT MICROSOFT DIDN'T FIX THIS GLITCH IN A NEW RELEASE!!!!!! especially since it was so pronounced in 2007.  What did we get in this 2010 bundle anyway?   My home computer (a Toshiba Qosmio) has office 2010 home edition and it ALSO has this problem.  I am very ready for this glitch to be fixed.  It wastes time.

I recently purchase a new computer with operating system Windows 7.  I am using Microstof Office Professional Edition 2003.  All the cells are very large.  They need to be the original size.  How do I change Excell 2003 Excel Screen to have the cells horizontal and vertical become the original size.  Apparently Windows 7 has coverted the cells to be larger.  Whenever I receive email Excel files attached and I open them up, the files come through all garbled up because my copy of Excel has larger cells.  HELP!  I need to change all the cells back tot he original size.  Thanks for your help.  My email address is ******@msn.com.  Please reply back to me using this email address.

So it seems like we have three main solutions that work almost all the time:

1. Change from Page Layout to Normal view.
2. Change your magnification up/down.
3. Change how you are highlighting cells - either:

       a. Use the arrow keys to move away from the group of selected cells and back to the single cell you wanted, or

       b. When you click and get multiple cells, keep holding the mouse button down and drag in the opposite direction (left, up, or both) to reduce the cells selected to just the one you want.

(I think it was 3b that worked for Kelly?)

 

In addition, F8 works if you happen to be in extended mode, and turning off Sticky Keys works if you accidentally have them turned on. 

 

I read a post elsewhere about this being a problem with cursor orientation, and that the keyboard microprocessor may be having problems recognizing something to do with the Shift key?  The suggestion was to hit each one of your Shift, Alt, and Ctrl keys once, to help the keyboard figure itself out again.

 

I was going to say that this morning I couldn't remember having this problem in a long time, and that somewhere during that time I had switched from a cordless Logitech mouse to a standard corded (optical) Dell mouse.  Then I started having the problem again this afternoon.  There goes that theory.  Maybe it is the spreadsheet.  I do have many spreadsheets this has never happened in, but I think the one I was using today was the first one it did happen in.  I haven't used IT in a long time.  That's probably the connection.

Just as an FYI, when in page view it seems to only happen once you select the last row on the page.  Once you do that, you're stuck.  There are other ways that you can reset it, but it does seem that it's related to the last row on a page.  My suggestion is just to not use page view and view your document prior to printing it.  I have a support ID with Microsoft so I'll open up a case.
