I have heard, but cannot confirm, that some people with this problem have found that altering the zoom level (slider in lower right corner of Excel window) gets the multiple seelction to go away

best wishes

i recently experienced this issue when i installed Office Pro Plus 2016 using an offline installer on a Surface Pro 4 2017 model...

the zoom trick worked a treat for a time but it never permanently fixed the issue

I think i have found a permanent fix though... i uninstalled the 2016 office which was 32bit, and using the online installer, i installed the 64bit version... so far, this bug has not come back...

(i also noticed that the computer had multiple versions of office installed, so i uninstalled every last one and gave the computer 2 reboots before installing the 64bit version...

may be worth a try to see if this solution can be replicated...

I'm using Excel 2010. Just started having this problem, and read some of these posts. Here's what fixed it for me.

To the left of the zoom slider there are three different page view buttons:

I was set to page layout.  Changing the zoom helped sometimes, sometimes it did not.

I clicked the Normal view, Page Break view, then back to Page Layout.

    No more issue!

    Hope this helps someone.

    Thanks.
