I have heard, but cannot confirm, that some people with this problem have found that altering the zoom level (slider in lower right corner of Excel window) gets the multiple seelction to go away

best wishes

Hi.  This also happened to me using Excel 2010. It was happening in only one sheet of several in this file. I Followed the instructions on this page using the View tab and increasing the zoom then clicked in another cell which selected a single cell only, yahoo!  Then used the tab again to select the zoom back to 100%.  This worked a charm.

I have had that problem too in Excel 2010.  If the slider bar doesn't fix it, I found that to the left of the slider bar, there are three little icons, and clicking on the first did the trick for me.

I've just started having the same problem. One of the people said that zooming in can help, its TRUE. I think its because when you zoom out too much the pointer stays the same size, in this case its too large for the cells in the worksheet so it will select more that one row.

I didn't expect this to work, but it did! F8 did not work for me. Zooming out then back in worked.
