Problem with Office-2010 PowerPoint-2010

I am trying to download a powerpoint file from a web tool. After downloading when I try to open the file I get the blah blah "PowerPoint can attempt to repair the presentation." When I clicked repair it gave another error message that "There was an error access the file".

After a lot of looking around I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION. The "Protected View" settings in PowerPoint has to be changed to be able to consider the web downloaded presentations as safe and viewable. Here is how I did it:

  1. Open PowerPoint 2010 -> Click on File -> Options
  2. On the side tab click on "Trust Center" -> Now click on "Trust Center Settings" which is in the right window.
  3. It opens a new window "Trust Center"
  4. Click on "Protected View" on the left side panel.
  5. Uncheck "Enable protected view for files originating from the internet". - Click OK and OK

This should get rid of "repair my ____" error and open the ppt file.

Hi

Although this does solve your problem, it is unsafe to disable the Protected View setting.

It was specifically added to enhance security of opening Office documents from untrusted sources.

If you go to file properties of the file, you may see a button called "Unlock". Unlocking the file should also suffice.

    The above "Resolution" did not work for me or for anyone else based on what I've seen on line.

    This solution worked for me:

    In Power Point:

    File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings...(button) > Trusted Locations > Add New Location...(button) > in the path field I entered:

    C:\

    (or whatever your hard drive letter is)

    and checked the box for 'Subfolders of this location are also trusted"

    HI there, 

    just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to share how you went about fixing this, it had me worried that there were bigger and bader things going on with all my files... im in college and every single lecture note i have is in power point !

    as to what triggered this im not sure but my avast security centre desided it was an illegal copy?? which its not  ?? but shortly after many other things went hay wire? the drivers for my mouse pad being one 

    anyway

    This worked right away - many thanks.  One wonders why Microsoft puts this blockage in the way in the first place if the solution to opening files is to remove it???
