Problem with Office-2010 PowerPoint-2010

I am trying to download a powerpoint file from a web tool. After downloading when I try to open the file I get the blah blah "PowerPoint can attempt to repair the presentation." When I clicked repair it gave another error message that "There was an error access the file".

After a lot of looking around I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION. The "Protected View" settings in PowerPoint has to be changed to be able to consider the web downloaded presentations as safe and viewable. Here is how I did it:

  1. Open PowerPoint 2010 -> Click on File -> Options
  2. On the side tab click on "Trust Center" -> Now click on "Trust Center Settings" which is in the right window.
  3. It opens a new window "Trust Center"
  4. Click on "Protected View" on the left side panel.
  5. Uncheck "Enable protected view for files originating from the internet". - Click OK and OK

This should get rid of "repair my ____" error and open the ppt file.

Hi

Although this does solve your problem, it is unsafe to disable the Protected View setting.

It was specifically added to enhance security of opening Office documents from untrusted sources.

If you go to file properties of the file, you may see a button called "Unlock". Unlocking the file should also suffice.

    I have tried all of the above. 

    This happens on my pc and my Wifes laptop.

    Both running Office 2013.

    When I open her presentation from our USB stick, or move it to the pc, it says 

    If I click repair I get this.

    Now a series of pictures from the presentation have been removed, and a red X is left.

    This is a presentation we made on these two computers, with pictures stored localy, so there should be no internet security problem.

    If I remove the X and add the photos again, save, close, and reopen, its fine.

    But as soon as I disconnect my USB drive, and reconnect it, it gives the errors again, and this time it removes a different set of pictures.

    It's like it finds errors in a random set of photos.

    I tried all of the above, but it didn't work for me.

    Hi

    I know it wss a looooong time ago that you posted this solution, but I am still encountering the same problem opening pptx, xlsx and docx files downloaded from a trusted site.

    I have tried your solution, the one involving the DCOM security settings, and the one where you unblock each file. No joy.

    Are you aware of any other solutions?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
