I want to add a page number in word 2010, but there are  no options of varying page numbers. What it says is just More page numbers from office.com and save selection as page number(in grey). Nornally, wasn't it supposed to show all the pictures of the options listed?

So, I wanted to find More Page Numbers from Office.com, but there were No Online Content Available.

The problem was fixed by making "C:\Users...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks\1033"unhidden, although I didn’t delete the “Building Blocks.dotx” mentioned inhttp://www.conetrix.com/Blog/post/Fix-Missing-Insert-Page-Numbers-in-Word-2007.aspx.

But why aren't there more Page Numbers from Office.com?

Anyways, thanks for all the help.

    I'm having similar trouble with page numbers in Word.  This is a new computer running Office 2010, and for some reason, when I add a page number to a document (doesn't matter whether header or footer), I have only one choice of number formats, and the page number put in is the same on each page.  So I could have a 1000 page document with every page numbered 1!  I have tried every fix and cheat I know to fix it, but my only work-around is to move the document to my laptop that has the previous version of Office, put in the page numbers and send to the printer or save to the server with the correct page numbers.  Very frustrating that I can't use my nifty new computer for this.

    I've gone in and done a repair on Office, but that didn't help either.  I'd try a reinstall, but the computer was loaded up with all my software at the builder, and I don't have the information or disks I need.  Any thoughts on why page numbering won't work and any way to fix it.  I've gone into my files and any of the files mentioned previously in this post were already unhidden, so that's not it.

    I had this problem with Word, and I ended up having to call Microsoft support. Eventually I got in touch with someone who was able to solve the problem, but he had to remotely control my computer to fix some files.  It took some time out of my morning, but it did solve the problem.

    You can easily insert a PAGE field by pressing Alt+Shift+P. This will give you a plain page number wherever you insert it.

    Edit your header or footer. With your cursor in the relevant area by your page number, press Alt-F9. Do you see {PAGE}?

    If not, delete the fixed page number and press Alt-Shift-P.
