how to uninstall OneNote

Hi Leonard and others:

I wrote about this several years ago in 2014, I hate it because it is a downright virus, because it puts an empty file of 4096 bytes each in every folder on every partition, * YOU have to remove before you can get rid of its havoc. It can simply be uninstalled as the whole Microsoft office 20xx Student, and re-install it from its CD,excluding ONENote and I do not use my version I have, of Microsoft Office 2007 Student, It is a big SHAM! Instead I use Microsoft Office 2000 Professional that INCLUDES an email program as Microsoft OUTLOOK 2000 Professional, that I can use with Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit, And do show its office assistant as I choose it. Also ONCE I store MS Office 2000 Pro on any HDD, I can boot it with its CD Key from there even on any partition other than drive letter C.

I also have windows Vista but the PC it is on is hard to turn On, The problem exist because it is inside the software and whether it is an AMD Processor or Intel in how it works and which sub-versions of Window 7 it is on!

It looks like Microsoft does not want you to use the older software despite it works for Windows Vista, 7 and what else!

I don't use One Note.  I have W10 Pro.  One Note keeps allowing itself inbound access to my Windows Firewall after I block it.  I don't see the app folder anywhere on my computer.  It is not in the control panel programs icon at all.  If it is a Windows Store Trusted Program, it should show in my Windows Store Library with all of my other Windows Stores app I've downloaded.  When I pull up One Note in the Windows Store, it says it is installed.  I do a search from the start menu, and it shows the One Note app.  I right click on it, and the only options are to add it to my start menu or add it to my taskbar. 

I pulled up the app.  I went into settings>trust center>.  I turned off the option to allow the app to automatically connect to Microsoft's Online Account Center, so I hope that fixes the issue.  I turned off the option to sync notebooks automatically in settings>options.  Another Windows help site informed me to go into File>Trust Center to uninstall it, since it is a Windows Trusted app.  I don't see that option anywhere in the entire Settings menu of the app.

If appears to be a cloud app, but the Windows Store should not show it as installed on my laptop then.  Everytime I go into my account, and I look in the shared section, there is an unknown desktop computer there I need to remove.  It looks like someone is using the One Note app to gain access to my computer through the cloud I have no reason to share with anyone.  If somebody does find the location of the app folder in This Computer, please reply with folder steps.

I am not sure why this has become such a hot button issue. I am sorry that my comments have made it worse.

I added the remove instructions at the top f the thread because I thought it would help people. It was done directly from my uninstalling it for a test. Let me repeat the basics of that instruction, since a piece of it seems to have gotten lost:

From Start --> Control Panel --> Programs and Features, find your version of Office in the list of programs. Click the "Change" link at the top of the list. Wait for Office to do the set up. On the list of options, select "Add or Remove Features". Click Continue. Select OneNote from the list. RIght click it and select "Not Availalbe", then click continue again. Your computer will buzz for a while.... When done, OneNote should be removed from your computer.

Please be sure that you have another printer available to that machine so that you get a new default printer once Send to OneNote is gone.

As for the other question: No - OneNote doesn't slow down my machine. I usually have at least one instance of it up and I don't see any slow down at all. In fact, installing it and getting it set up only takes a minute or two on my machines. I would love to know more about what is on your machines that is causing the slow down.

Some of us do care about OneNote problems. Just because I can't live without it doesn't mean you should use it. I am sorry for the problems this thread has caused.

     I appreciate your reply George, but I amHA- AH you allbecause, ... I will NOT use Microsoft Office 2007 Student, on any of my 12 PCs that I do have, * because I do have MS Office 2000 Professional and it works flawlessly for Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 10; and it has an email program, Microsoft Outlook 2000 Pro, that works for me. I cannot get the Windows Live Mail 2012 to work anyway that is in Windows 7 and 10, because Microsoft dropped its support. But Windows live Mail 2011 DOES work on or with Windows XP.  AS far as one NOTE is concerned, it is a DAMM Virus and it should not be included at all for any successive versions Microsoft Office Student on that it does put an empty file taking up 4096 bytes in each and every folder, on every partition you have chewing up the valuable HDD space, (See my other comments on it in Microsoft Community)

     Just because Microsoft dropped support for Windows 98, XP, and Vista, does NOT mean you do also! Windows 7 and 10 has a lot of that in it, what will matter, is what version of Internet Explorer you use to go on line with. And Windows XP I like best because I can do more with it than Windows 7 and 10. It now matters what my PC has as 32-bit or 64-bit processor. And I like 32-bit processors because all my software will work with it. And the DDR RAM is not a critical issue if it only can go 4 GB, because I can expand it to up to 70 GB with Windows XP, and with Windows 7 and 10, I only need 100 GB of page file. I just bought recently, two new refurbished PCs, one has Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, and the other has Windows 7 Pro in it 32-bit, and both together cost me two 'C notes and a half, Less than the Hard disk drives that are in it. If you are running Windows 10, put it in PC mode and forget Tablet mode, IF you are running on a full size tower, or PC. It is designed for tablets only!!! In which I wont buy or another laptop! The do not have the guts inside it that I need to work with, as extra bays and internal SATA or IDE ports and a few PCI ports. Hence a few requirements I must have. I do not like anything better than a dual processor, such as an I3 or better, because, they are too fussy to work with.

I got all my PCs going a lot better than what the factory puts out, and one has forty HDDs connected to it, and a lot of other hardware connected to running on Windows XP Pro SP3, as 104 partitions in all.

I have been working with PCs since 1962, when I enrolled into a electronics class at that time.

   * If you do have a copy of MS Office 2000 Pro, you may have to reset your security permissions in the folders it uses in your %Profile Name% folder to include full control except 'USERS' being 'READ & Execute', you do not have to USE the CD to boot it or install it, and the CD Product key can be stored in a text file on a hard disk somewhere and so its installer program, and copied in segments in the right numbered boxes to use it. IF it wont work after awhile, you do 'Detect and Repair' from MS Office Word or Excel et cetera and other's Help menu! I want it to show the office assistant, other than the 'Paper clip' and I know how to do it by play the file name change game.
