Nothing personal, but I had to reply to someone's post so I just picked this one at random :-)
I'm sure that nobody in this thread wants to hear it but [most of] the issues being raised are not endemic to Word/Office 2011. If they were there would be significantly more than the relatively small number of complaints. When seen in a concentrated thread
like this it may seem like a lot, but when compared to the tens of millions of Office 2011 users it really is a fractional percentage. It's understood that 'the numbers' don't make it any less problematic for those who are experiencing difficulties. In the
final analysis, though, the majority of these problems stem from local issues which need to be resolved on the Macs where the crashes are occurring.
I'm not offering myself up as any kind of shining example, but I have been using Office 2011 on several different Macs - both G5 & Intel based - since it was first released (actually throughout the complete Beta testing) without any of the problems being related
here. I do a lot of intentional work tryingt to reproduce these situations in an effort to help resolve them. In most cases I can't & in those cases where I can I typically find that there's a local influence at the root of the problem.
Unfortunately, each case is different & needs to be addressed that way. It's impossible to assist anyone when half a dozen separate users jump into another user's posting with "me too" replies. Please understand that although the symptoms may be similar the
causes - therefore the cures - can vary significantly. I realize that those experiencing such issues need to vent their frustrations, but using this forum as though it were some personal blog or Facebook conversation makes it impossible to follow what suggestions
are being made to whom... and following the suggestions actually offered to user A may very well compound the problems being experienced by user B.
Merely as a request, this process best enables those who volunteer their efforts here to best assist the widest range of users seeking help:
- Search the forum to see if the problem has been addressed previously. If not, post a New Message stating all particulars.
- If there are solutions that seem to pertain to your circumstances follow the suggestions given. If the issue hasn't been resolved for the original poster, follow the thread as it develops, but there is no purpose served by replying in that thread.
- However, if that worked for someone else but didn't work for you it's a pretty good indication that your situation is at least somewhat different. Rather than posting as a Reply in that thread, submit a New Message indicating what you've tried & the results
of those efforts.
The bottom line is that a Reply should only be made if offering a suggestion/solution appropriate to the topic initiated by the originator of the thread. That makes for a much more productive & useful resource that benefits the widest range of users.
Thanks!
Bob J.
