Mind Mapping + OneNote

Hello, I really enjoy OneNote 2010 however I'm a bit curious if anything that mashes OneNote and Mind Mapping technology exist. The only thing I've found is for an older version of OneNote and for a ludicris price of $350. Any leads would be greatly appreciated, Thanks and Best Regards, Howard

You could do it with OneNote - use the hyperlinks in OneNote to connect ideas.  You could even use the Wikilinks feature to create new pages and link those.

If you want to draw boxes and lines you can do it, though OneNote isn't perhaps the most elegant solution for that and occasionally the lines can get moved awkwardly if you add things above or around them.

    A Surface/pro 3 with mind mapping in OneNote really would be awesome... Just the basics guys that's all we need.. Nowt flash 😉

    Hi,

    Thanks for your input.  I think OneNote has a real potential to be a near killer app.  Like a spreadsheet you can use it a lot of different ways.   The ability to diagram and brainstorm with mind maps seems like a natural extension.   OneNote needs to be ubiquitous.   One of the most popular phone apps is Evernote which in someways is like OneNote except not as good.  Microsoft needs to make OneNote run on every possible platform it can and add lightweight diagramming and mind mapping.   I use MSPaint a lot.  It isn't anywhere near as powerful as PhotoShop but it does the job for lightweight stuff.   If they put too much diagramming into OneNote then no one would buy Visio.   But some of the MS Word diagramming and lightweight mind-mapping would really round out OneNote.   Make it ubiquitous.  Make it social.

    There is also a lot synergy for tablets especially if they support a pressure sensitive pen interface.  Note taking, categorizing thoughts and ideas, to-do lists,  sketches and art all in one place and searchable.

    I have used xmind and it is a very nice application but It isn't a cloud app and so I can't just view my work from everywhere like I can with OneNote.

    All the previous posts makes sense, but it seems we're not enough to force it. Microsoft may have other priorities, than enhancing OneNote. Other developers may don't have the need and/or time to create a plugin.

    Anyway..., I recently played around with xmind (xmind.net). Today the base version is for free.

    Of course, you WILL NOT be able to interlink both applications, BUT......, with just a bit more effort you can:

    • copy & paste a node from xmind into OneNote.

    What you get is what MindMaps basically are...: a structured list

    • copy & paste a structured list from OneNote into xmind.

    What you get is a mind map. You simply need to adjust the appearance and order your sub-nodes

    Okay, you need to look where you've saved the file and paste the path into OneNote as well.

    Just my $ .02

    PS: I don't work for xmind, but perhaps they will have the resources to create a plugin or the interlink mechanic.
