Mind Mapping + OneNote

Yet another vote for MindMapping.

I'm an MD/PhD student, and the first student to use a windows tablet with onenote for all my medical school notes and research activity.

I can tell you its setting a trend cause frankly, IPad's and even windows tablets without a wiacom pen do not compare to what I am able to do with my Samsung Series 7 tablet using onenote.

I know at least 4 others that have made a transition to use OneNote on their laptops instead of their IPads...HOWEVER!!

#1 complaint is the LACK of an integrated MindMapper: I understand linking onenote pages and the like, however, OneNote needs a mindmapper that allows future editing without loosing structure/connections as you would with a makeshift mind-map via inking.

You wanted customer Feedback, here it is. Add a feature packed integrated MindMapper to OneNote.

P.S. I'm on the verge of purchasing that GEM Add in solely for the MindMap feature...however it doesn't seem to let me try it before I buy it.

I purchased GEM and it has been the greatest thing ever...not just because of what it confidently adds but because at anytime day or night if I have needed anything (usually because of a Windows issue and needed something), I  have gotten a quick response in under 20 minutes and the person has made sure my problem has been solved, regardless of how long it has taken. In total I have spent a little more than $50, for constant updates and improvements in addition to OneNote. I use other mind mapping software (thanks Microsoft rewards and a sale...that $30 something program was free and can be inserted in one note but lately there has been nothing but problems...I first purchaced GEM favorites for about $22 which includes mind-mapping...not anything fancy but it its basic and does the job and later  purchased regular GEM...low $30s...I am a SPED teacher but also have LD myself and am SSD/HOH, VI from brain surgery and need  more ways to organize than one note had to offer and also teach students ways  to organize as well. This seemed an affordable addition.

I'm pleased to see that this discussion has benn alreadu opened. I'm using a LeNovo X220 Tablet computer with meets perfectly the requirements of Windows 8. I really appreciate the ability to easily swith from RT to Win8 inferface, thank you really much for (finaly) offering a disruptive answer to competitors' touch-enhanced tablet.

However, I do agree that the main and most important core business to microsoft is the integration of Windows 8 into a connected, agile, robust and handy environment. Those will soon remain the most important decision factor for the consumer.

Windows 8 already demonstrated outstanding interconnectivity between social media and messages, easy to share features, excellent hand writting recognition... so, in a period of increasingly high numbers of information to share/store/organize OneNote appears to ba the conerstone of the Office solution, even morer given the productivity increase given buy the touch capabilities...

From my point of view too, integrating a mindmapping feature into OneNote, each nodes being a sheet where to add comments, links, attachements... That would be, as far as I know, the best present for this end of year.

So... go to work MS guys, I love what you have been doing with Windows 8... Please, keep on !

I agree.  OneNote with integrated Mindmapping feature would be incredible!  I am a visual person and love mind-mapping.  I have given up on Freemind (which I love) and do all my mindmapping in OneNote.  OneNote 2016 has the ability to move sections by its 'handles' and also 'collapse/expand' those same sections.  It use THIS capability to accomplish my mindmapping.  It's not as 'visual' as I'd like, but it gets the job done for me.  Freemind also lacks the ability for me to have a significant amount of text in a Node (unlike MagicalPad).  That's why I use OneNote.  I can have all the text I'd like.  I can dock a SECOND OneNote Window on the side of my screen and work on TWO OneNotes at the same time!  For the best 'visuals' I've found, it is on MagicalPad (an apple/IOS product), which unfortunately isn't Windows friendly and worse yet has a reputation for being unstable and LOSING its data.  OneNote has SIGNIFICANT redundancies which means that I don't lose my notes!  OneNote is a Cornerstone of my life and my computer work.  Adding a mind-mapping feature to OneNote is my epitome of 'ideal'.

The  vote is listed as "Retired" so apparently MS is not interested... too bad.

I am kind of torn... I use iPad about as often as my laptop. On the iPad, I use both OneNote and a mindmapping / outlining tool iThoughts that works with most common minmapping formats directly, including XMind.

I find that as much as I like Onenote in Windows, on the tablet it loses to iThoughts.
