view only one page on the screen at a time

Hi,

I'm running Microsoft Office XP on win7 64bit and can't seem to find a way to view only one page in a Word document. If I download or write more than one page they come up in two page side by side format on the screen. Is there a way to set one page at a time viewing as default?

Guys, there is a VERY easy fix for Office XP / 2003 users:

Make your MS Word window fullscreen

Now it might display 2 pages side by side (depending on your screen resolution)

To get back to a single page while using the PRINT LAYOUT view, follow below:

Click on VIEW -> choose WEB LAYOUT -> Click VIEW again -> now go back to PRINT LAYOUT

The problem should be solved, if it occurs again in the future, just follow these quick steps

    While I see your points, I do think that if you explicitly select the One Page view, what you should get is one page, not two. And in fact, you can do this, but not by using the Zoom slider. You have to open the Zoom dialog (by clicking the percentage number on the status bar) and select Whole Page. Unfortunately, as has been previously noted, this works only until you change the Zoom and then try to change it back.

    It is only a 'flaw' because you want to use the program in a way different from how it was designed. This behaviour is intentional and has been present since at least Word 97. It is a direct result of the window width, the zoom setting and the display resolution. When the window width reaches a certain level for a given zoom level, the window will show two pages side by side. If you don't want to use the macro, reduce the width of the Word window so that only one page will fit.

    It doesn't need fixing because it isn't broken. As I said earlier, if you don't like the way it works, Microsoft has provided the means to customize it further. It is not possible to please all of the people all of the time.

    Sorry I disagree.. Why should anyone have to use a workaround (because this macro is a WORKAROUND not a personalization) for what is an OBVIOUS FLAW.. I should NOT have to write a macro or even copy and paste one.. No one should.. At the very least I should be able to change a SETTING IN THE SOFTWARE.. I get that the macro will solve the problem, and for those who are so inclined they will use it... I'll use a different WORKAROUND (magnify to 101%) and pass on the macro..

    BUT..

    You know what would ACTUALLY solve the problem?? Microsoft FIXING this and not expecting that everyday users will be okay with creating a macro or copying and pasting a macro to solve something that should be a daggone setting in their blessed software.. Sheesh...

    Anyway glad I found this thread.. I though I was losing my mind unti I Googled this issue and found a fair amount of postings on the web regarding this "feature"...
