view only one page on the screen at a time

Hi,

I'm running Microsoft Office XP on win7 64bit and can't seem to find a way to view only one page in a Word document. If I download or write more than one page they come up in two page side by side format on the screen. Is there a way to set one page at a time viewing as default?

Guys, there is a VERY easy fix for Office XP / 2003 users:

Make your MS Word window fullscreen

Now it might display 2 pages side by side (depending on your screen resolution)

To get back to a single page while using the PRINT LAYOUT view, follow below:

Click on VIEW -> choose WEB LAYOUT -> Click VIEW again -> now go back to PRINT LAYOUT

The problem should be solved, if it occurs again in the future, just follow these quick steps

    One thing to remember about the Zoom feature is that it is document specific.  In other words, if someone else saves the document at a multi-page default, when you open the document, it will display as a multi-page document. 

    Another solution for those who do not want to copy and paste code, is to open Normal.dot (.dotm).  Type a period (.).  Set your zoom to 100%.  Save normal.  Delete the period and save normal again.

    This will set the zoom for all new documents created without having to use a macro.  However, you will still have the problem with opening documents created by someone else.  This is where Graham's solution comes in handy.

    The operating system is Windows - if you view Word in a Window, the problem doesn't exist. There is simply no need to view Word full screen with acres of blank space either side of the 'page'. Or use the macro from my web page that I posted earlier in the thread. It is only an issue because you choose to make it one.

    What Microsoft's designers aren't realizing IMHO is just WHY people prefer the one page view... instead they probably insist that their current design is how it should be and that users should learn to adapt... or if they don't like it, use one of a half dozen workarounds.

    Sorry, but when viewing a document that's any larger than two pages, it's just not natural for one's eyes to go from the bottom left side of the screen to the top right side just to see the next line.  Furthermore, when trying to visually line something up that goes between pages it's a real pane.  To change the view... click click click click click.  That's just no good.
